Description:
The communications team has an immediate opening for a part- or full-time video intern, based in Washington, DC, to organize, transcribe, script, and edit videos documenting and promoting World Learning programs. In addition, the video intern will shoot original footage in the DC area, including staff and participant interviews, World Learning events, and other projects as needed. In some cases, the video intern will work with a preexisting archive of video footage gathered over the past year, so the candidate must be comfortable creating professional, compelling narratives using video from stylistically distinct shooters. The video intern will focus on creating short, socially optimized videos capturing the essence of World Learning programs and events and promoting youth leadership, international development, inclusivity, cultural exchange, and other key elements of the organization’s mission. While not required, candidates with experience with video marketing and SEO may advise the communications team on how best to distribute and promote the content that the video intern creates.
Required skills & attributes:
- Ability to edit video quickly and professionally on Adobe Premiere, which will be provided. The video intern may also use his or her own copies of Final Cut, Avid, or another preferred application,
- Familiarity with other Adobe Creative Cloud applications, in particular Adobe Audition for cleaning audio and Adobe After Effects for editing animated text and graphics.
- Ability to learn new software quickly as necessary, with minimal oversight. The capacity to overcome challenges by first self-teaching and experimenting with solutions.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage workflow involving multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Capacity to focus on a single project for hours at a time.
- Willingness to tackle transcription, video cataloging, gear research, and other video-related administrative tasks as needed.
- Strong writing skills.
- Familiarity with standard office productivity software, including Microsoft Office.
- Interest in international affairs, cultural exchange, education, development, and other aspects of World Learning’s work.
Required experience:
- Junior, senior, or graduate of a bachelor’s degree program in video production, visual communications, visual journalism, or related degree; or equivalent training and work experience in professional video production.
- Experience producing professional video as a freelancer, student, or communications professional.
Suggested experience:
- Work experience in a non-profit environment.
