United States of America: Program Officer, Leaders for Democracy Fellows

World Learning seeks a Program Officer to support the U.S. Department of State’s Leaders for Democracy Fellowship (LDF) Program. The Program Officer will be a part of overall program implementation including planning, designing, organizing and implementing a leadership development program that takes place in the United States and abroad. This position, which requires Arabic language skills, works with professionals from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The position requires excellent coordination, communication, and planning skills along with a detail-oriented focus.

Responsibilities

  • Support bilingual outreach and recruitment strategies. Duties include creating and editing recruitment materials in English and Arabic, reviewing participant applications in English and Arabic, and liaising with applicants to answer questions and provide support in English and Arabic;
  • Coordinate the U.S. visa processes for participants travelling to the United States;
  • Implement and administrate all the activities related to the LDF program in the U.S. and supporting international training conferences. Duties include preparing pre-departure, orientation, and program materials for fellow, assisting in organizing seminars, meetings, and appointments, and assisting the development of learning tools and virtual activities.
  • Research and engage subject matter experts, technical assistance experts, and facilitators across all MENA countries.
  • Continuously monitor and follow-up with selected fellows. Duties include collecting and tracking relevant professional and technical documents and resources, and providing virtual support and guidance to fellows throughout the cycle of the program engagements.
  • Arrange program logistics. Duties include booking international and domestic air and ground travel, reserving lodging, meeting, and event space, and procuring supplies, equipment, and health coverage for fellows;
  • Provide translation of materials and documents as well as interpretation as needed;
  • Handle other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of four years of practical experience in working on international programs is preferred;
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in Arabic required;
  • Strong cross-cultural experience with people from the Middle East and North Africa region;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with colleagues, or persons with different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, organizational and event planning ability;
  • Strong coordination, logistical, and time management skills;
  • Strong computer and internet proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and web-based tools);
