English Language Instructor, Jefferson Center English Language Program (JCELP)

World Learning is a leading international non-profit organization focusing on education projects around the world. World Learning is seeking dynamic, motivated, and professional English Language Instructors for the U.S. Embassy’s Jefferson Center in Mandalay, Myanmar. The ELP enrolls over 400 young adult and adult English language learners each term, and also hosts community activities to engage participants in cross-cultural understanding. English Language Instructors play a vital role in delivering English language courses and elective courses to beginner, intermediate and advanced students. English Language Instructors also contribute to the ELP by contributing to curriculum development, leading extracurricular activities, and participating in outreach events. World Learning offers a competitive salary and other benefits. This position is available at the Jefferson Center, Mandalay, Myanmar. English Language Instructors report to World Learning’s Program Director, ELP. Only finalist candidates will be contacted. No telephone enquiries please. This is a full time position and the English Language Instructor reports to the ELP Program Director and is located in Mandalay, Myanmar.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver EFL lessons within the scope of assigned courses and stipulated curriculum to students ranging from beginning to advanced levels;

  • Mark and provide feedback on coursework and assessments within the scope of assigned courses;

  • Maintain and submit administrative records pertaining to assigned courses;

  • Serve as a cover teacher when necessary;

  • Work individually and collaboratively on curriculum development projects;

  • Assist in managing extracurricular activities and outreach events and initiatives;

  • Attend regularly scheduled teachers’ meetings and staff training;

  • Participate in in-house professional development program;

  • Remain up-to-date on EFL teaching trends and developments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Native speaker;

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher;

  • A recognized international qualification in teaching English as a second, foreign, or further language (Ex. SIT CertTESOL, CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL);

  • Minimum 3 years of post-qualification classroom teaching experience;

  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of ELT contexts including ESP and test preparation;

  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of language teaching methodologies and ELT resource materials, the use of technology for learning purposes, American history and culture;

  • Cross-cultural communication and teaching skills, strong leadership and interpersonal skills, knowledge of basic MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook;

  • Ability to take initiative, be creative and flexible, and work independently and in teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the non-profit sector;

  • Graduate-level work in ELT or a related field;

  • Familiarity with Burmese language and culture and regional affairs.
