The Experiment in International Living is the nation’s most experienced provider of immersive summer abroad programs for high school students. For more than 85 years, our programs have allowed participants to explore the world in an authentic and impactful way, while developing enduring friendships through hands on cultural experiences and homestays.

Position:
The Digital Media Fellows will embed with The Experiment for the entirety of their travels, following students on either the Jordan: Arabic Language & The Middle East or The Netherlands: LGBTQ+ Rights & Advocacy programs to digitally document their experiences through multimedia projects. This position is for driven and passionate digital media journalists who believe in the importance of cross-cultural exchange and who want to engage with young people as they build leadership skills and learn about critical global issues. In addition to documenting the experience, fellows will assist student participants in creating their own multimedia projects. Fellows must be able to participate in the Staff Training Week in Vermont, June 21–June 27, 2020; the entire in-country program from either June 29–July 30, 2020 (Jordan) or June 28–July 20, 2020 (The Netherlands); and the debrief and product finalization in Washington, DC, for one week after the end of the in-country program.*
Responsibilities:
- Shoot professional-grade video and audio;
- Take photographs;
- Write narrative stories and blogs;
- Provide social media posts;
- Create multimedia projects about the program;
- Edit short videos during the program and longer videos upon return;
- Conduct introductory media and storytelling trainings for participants;
- Work with students to help them create blogs and digital media projects;
- Maintain positive relationships with in-country partners and group leaders; and
- Work respectfully and appropriately with young people within an educational setting.
Requirements:
- Student in your school’s undergraduate or graduate journalism program or recent graduate;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Experience in photography and videography;
- Experience working with audio and video editing software;
- Keen understanding of what makes a good story;
- Storyteller at heart;
- Digital native who understands and actively engages on social media platforms;
- Experience working with high school students strongly preferred;
- Experience with international travel preferred;
- Strong cross-cultural, verbal, and written communications skills;
- Must provide own photography/recording equipment and editing software;
- At least 21 years old by date of departure; and
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
