The Digital Program Specialist (DPS) is responsible for providing leadership and program management oversight for the Experiment Digital sponsored by the Steven’s Initiative and the Department of State. The DPS is expected to manage the day to day implementation of the Experiment Digital, including the development of curriculum, and hiring and monitoring of program facilitators. Additionally, the DPS will serve as Global Program’s expert on digital exchanges and digital programming- advising on strategy, tools and products to help move Global Programs forward in the digital sphere. The DPS position will also work closely with program teams, philanthropy, the business development unit and leadership to provide input and design on developing a Global Programs strategy to expand virtual exchanges and digital programming efforts, and represent Global Programs at conferences and strategic thought leadership events and seminars on digital programming.

Responsibilities

· Oversee the development and implementation of The Experiment Digital virtual program focusing on leadership, civic engagement, digital communications and alumni and follow-on support;

· Ensure that the Stevens Initiative grant guidelines are followed and deliverables are met, working collaboratively with the Aspen Institute and the U.S. Department of State;

· Hire, train and supervise a Program Associate to support The Experiment Digital;

· Communicate, supervise and monitor the In-Country staff and partner organizations in Algeria, Iraq, the U.S. and Yemen with their participant recruitment, school coordination, technology troubleshooting and alumni programming;

· Communicate and coordinate with staff on The Experiment to work with their school networks, including participant recruitment and alumni programming;

· Hire and supervise 15-35 youth facilitators each year for The Experiment Digital, in coordination with the Program Associate;

· Develop, enhance, and implement an online Facilitator Training to train youth facilitators on online facilitation skills;

· During program implementation, work with students in Iraq, Algeria, Yemen and the United States directly to encourage high levels of interaction and engagement;

· Design and implement innovative social media strategies to maximize student engagement;

· Setting strategic direction for digital programming for Global Programs:

o Represent World Learning and attend conferences to promote World Learning’s thought leadership on virtual exchanges and digital programming and design;

o As needed, serve as a consultant to Global Programs (Global Exchange and Global Development) on digital programming designs; may serve on the design team and red team reviews;

o Liaise with philanthropic units at World Learning for virtual exchange opportunities;

o Identify tools, conduct outreach and funding opportunities to sustain The Experiment Digital beyond 2021 through fee for service custom virtual exchanges;

o Provide substantive input to program development and interact with external clients and partners to facilitate assessment of needs for digital programming and promoting virtual exchanges;

o Develop business strategy for virtual exchange;

o Advise Global Programs’ staff and teams on ways to use digital tools and programs to enhance their program delivery and to streamline workflow;

o Apply digital programming concepts and models to the development of new project, policies or services;

o Lead organization’s use of mobile technology; and

o Increase awareness use of technological tools at World Learning.

Requirements

  • Minimum education requirement;
  • Master’s degree in international arena, or Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience;

· At least three years’ program management experience of international exchange or online learning programs;

· Expertise in online learning and gaming platforms, social networks, and blogging platforms; working knowledge of Google Classroom, Tumblr, Facebook; and Microsoft Office preferred;

· Significant international cross-cultural travel or study or work experience, including 2nd or 3rd language use (Arabic or Kurdish preferred); experience with Iraq or the MENA region preferred;

· Experience working with youth in a leadership development context preferred;

· Strong cross-cultural and communications skills; detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities;

· Ability to work well independently and in a team environment;

· Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines;

· Fluency in English required;

· Ability to manage ambiguity in the work environment including effectively coping with change; able to shift comfortably; decide and act without having the total picture; comfortably handle risk and uncertainty; and

· Demonstrated ability to function in unstructured work environments and/or uncertain conditions (includes the ability to work in situations where one has little/no control).
