World Learning is a leading international non-profit organization focusing on education projects around the world. World Learning is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and professional English Language Program (ELP) Director for the U.S. Embassy’s American and Jefferson Centers in Yangon and Mandalay, Myanmar. The ELP Director will be responsible for managing business development, academic programming, as well as the facility operations for two English language learning centers in Myanmar. The ELP enrolls over 400 young adult and adult students each term, and hosts community activities to engage participants in cross-cultural understanding. The ELP Director will play an important role in setting and achieving strategic business and academic objectives for the program, working in cooperation with Myanmar and headquarters-based World Learning personnel, U.S. Embassy officers, and the Burmese public. This is a six-month position, with a one-year renewal pending contract extension.
Specific Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development
· Manage strategically the American Center (Yangon) and the Jefferson Center (Mandalay) facilities in the role of director of the ELP
· Lead Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development initiatives**,** aimed at expanding ELP reach and services for the community Serve as the main POC between the ELP and World Learning home office for business, academic, and administrative matters
· Provide program development updates; including academic and business strategies and fulfill donor reporting requirements
· Convene the ELP Advisory Council regularly, encouraging their input into program development
ELP Staff Management and Recruitment- Administrative and Teaching Staff
· Provide leadership to full-time and adjunct teachers so that they may achieve program academic goals and quality program delivery
· Work with the ELP administrative staff towards to achieve programmatic goals and quality in administrative processes.
· Recruit and hire ELP teaching and administrative staff, as needed, in collaboration with World Learning’s Human Resources Office
· Serve as the main point of contact (POC) with World Learning Headquarters and the Embassy in Yangon in matters related to ELP staff management.
Operations Quality Management and Compliance
· Oversee compliance of U.S. Government grant requirements as relevant to ELP operations and finance
· Contribute to and oversee program financial oversight
· Work in collaboration with World Learning Headquarters to set program operation objectives and mechanisms to assess their achievement
· Oversee administrative and operation processes to ensure quality
· Participate in required related training sessions and programs
Academic Quality Management and Compliance
· Work in collaboration with World Learning Headquarters to set academic objectives and mechanisms to assess their achievement
· Participate in setting academic processes including curriculum implementation, in-service teacher training programs, and course programming
· Analyze data gathered from student satisfaction surveys, class observations, and input from other stakeholders for programmatic decision making
· Participate in required training sessions and programs and keep up-to-date on most recent ELT trends
Position Requirements:
· Education: MA in TESOL, Education, or related field
· Experience: Minimum three years of language program or business center management experience and five years of classroom teaching experience; preferable experience with US government programming.
· Language: Native-level English language fluency or C2 level in the CERF required. Excellent writing skills required.
· Knowledge: Knowledge and experience with communicative language teaching methodology; ELT resource materials; American history and culture; use of technology to support the learning purposes
· Management Experience: Proven experience managing teaching staff, courses, and administrative procedures; directing teams with diverse functions; clear communication skills; planning and carrying out management plans
· Skills and Abilities: Cross-cultural teaching skills, strong leadership, effective communication (oral and written) skills, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of basic MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and MS Outlook
· Ability to take initiative, be creative, flexible, and work independently and with a team
Desired Qualifications:
· Familiarity with Burmese language and culture
· Familiarity with U.S. Government grant management
